I watched a show on the History Channel about Thanksgiving. There is only one existing letter that mentions the first Thanksgiving by the Pilgrims. The settlers sent out men with blunder-busts to get some “fowl.” They may have had turkey but chances are better that they had pheasants or ducks. When the feast started they set off their cannon. That attaced the attention of the local Indians who came but had not originally been n invited. The Indians wanted to do their part so they sent out a party that brought back some deer for the feast. The Pilgrims didn’t have pumpkin pie as they hadn’t brought flour nor sugar. They could have had roasted squash that the Indians had taught them how to cook over an open fire.

About 6 or 7 years ago I went to Plimouth Plantation, which is a faithful reconstruction of the Pilgrims village. It is a great place to visit to learn more about how the Pilgrims survived in the new world.

Enjoy this Thanksgiving with your family.
