Just before 3 a.m. on 7 Feb. there was a car reported traveling at high rate of speed in Pittsford. The car went off the road and crashed through a wooden fence of the Pioneer Burying Ground in Pittsford and then into a tree. The driver, 49 year old Norman Evans, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with a broken leg, a broken hip, and head injuries. The driver will be charged with driving while intoxicated at a later time.
By noon, a crew had already begun to repair the cemetery fence. This time no tombstones were damaged in the cemetery. Back in Nov. 2010 another car crashed into that same cemetery and damaged many tombstones.
