Wreath at Nathaniel's grave.

One hundred and seventy five years today Rochester, NY became a City. After the Erie Canal came through the area, Rochester grew at tremendous rate. Becoming a City enabled Rochester to grow.

Today at Mt. Hope Cemetery Mayor Robert Duffy placed a wreath at the grave of Nathaniel Rochester (above). Nathaniel was one of three founders of the original small village and he moved to the Village about 1818. The weather was rainy but about 30 people showed up to pay tribute to Nathaniel Rochester. Among the group were three descendants of Nathaniel Rochester. The Rochester family plot at the top of lot R is large with at least four generations. On a better day than today you get a nice view of downtown Rochester from the Rochester family plot.
