Top Song 50 Years Ago; #7

The seventh song to hit the top of the charts in 1962 was “Johnny Angel” by Shelley Fabares. It was the top song on the Billboard chart for two weeks (Apr. 1 – 14). It also hit the top spot on the Cash Box chart the one week of April 15- 21. Backup vocals on the song were by Darlene Love and her group, the Blossoms. The song premiered on an episode of “The Donna Reed Show” on which Shelley played the daughter, Mary Stone. Shelley recorded more songs but never had another song in the top 20.

Shelley has had a great career as an actress in both movies and television stating about 1955. Besides the 191 episodes of “The Donna Reed Show” she appeared in almost 200 episodes of “Coach” (1998-1997) as Christine Armstrong. Plus many appearances on many series and TV movies.

I’ve included 2 video links. The first one is Shelley preforming it on “The Donna Reed Show” and the sound is slightly muffled. Also note that whoever added the song name misspelled Shelley’s name. The second video is a good clear sound with many pictures of Shelley.
