Today there were free rides on the Dentzel Carousel at Ontario Beach Park or as some people it, Charlotte Beach. It is the only ride left from a park that in the early 1900s had many. At the time of trolleys, it was easy and cheap to get to the park. As automobiles took over less people went to the park and it eventually closed. The carousel was built in 1905 and remained as the other rides were sent to other places. It has been fully restored and the animals look great. Seeing as there were free rides today, there were many people of all ages riding when I was there. As you can see in the photo (below) it was almost full at times. Along with carousel, is a fully restored band organ that blasts great music.
The official Monroe County website will give prices and times.
The National Carousel Assoc. has a bunch of good photos and details.
