This weekend (Friday through Sunday) is River Romance Weekend. There are many activities all revolving around the Genesee River. The first thing to happen on Friday at 2:00p.m. is the ribbon cutting of the new Heritage Trail. his takes place out in front of the Blue Cross Arena. Then there are walking tours at 3, 4 & 5. Again meet out in front of the Arena. It is about a mile and a quarter and takes about an hour to complete.
Also on Friday at 7 p.m. you can renew your marriage vows on the banks of the Genesee. This takes place on the Pont de Rennes Bridge (off State St. at Platt St.) overlooking the High Falls. Arrive no later than 6:45 p.m. No registration fee.
There are many tours over the weekend. Some are free and other have a small charge.
On Saturday from noon to 1:30 p.m. is the only time that you can legally tour the Erie Canal Aqueduct that is under the Broad Street Bridge. You have to meet up in the lobby of the Blue Cross Arena.
On Sunday (noon to 12:45) there is a tour of Charlotte Cemetery at Lake Ave and River St.
