Top Song 50 Years Ago; #18

Just in time for Halloween is the next song to hit the top of the charts in 1962. Monster Mash was a song written by Bobby Pickett and fellow band member Lenny Capizzi. The song had Bobby doing an impression of Boris Karloff. The listing on the record said that it was by “Bobby (Boris) Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers” but it was recorded by Bobby, Lenny and some studio musicians. This was to be the only hit by Bobby. He died in 2007.

The song was on the top of the Billboard chart for 2 weeks (Oct. 14 – 27). It was on the top of the Cash Box chart for 3 weeks (Oct. 14 – Nov 3). It would return to charts again in the US in both 1970 and 1973 but didn’t hit the top.
