It has been a while since I have been to the Rochester Public Library. I spent the last couple of days in the Local History Section doing all those things that you can’t do on-line. There has been some changes. The Retrieval Department has been moved up to the second floor in the Local History Department. I’m sure that the library did the move to save money but I like it because I no longer have to go up and down the stairs as I am researching. The Retrieval Department has the newspaper microfilms and also the New York State Vital Record indexes. They are also responsible for indexing the vital records in the newspapers that became the Life Records database. I think that moving the Retrieval Department makes doing genealogical researcher easier.
