This morning the Irondequoit Town Board and the Library Board of Trustees announced a proposal to build a new consolidated library in the Town. Irondequoit currently has 2 branches, the Helen McGraw branch on East Ridge Road and the Pauline Evans branch on Cooper Road. This proposal would build one library on the Town Hall campus on Titus Avenue.
The new library would be 60,000 square feet with a basement and 2 above ground floors. It would have a room for teens and children, a quiet study area and a flexible meeting room space for library programs and community use. There would be Wi-Fi with adequate space and outlets for laptop use and more computers. There would also be a Town Historian office and Local History areas.
The new library plan will be contingent upon a bond referendum which will be voted on by Irondequoit residents in either Spring or Summer 2013. That bond would be for $16 million with some costs to come from a fundraising campaign and naming rights to the library.
