The second song to hit the top of the music charts in 1963 is Walk Right In by The Rooftop Singers. The song was written by musician Gus Cannon and originally recorded by Cannon’s “Jug Stompers” in 1929. The Rooftop Singers was composed of Erik Darling, Bill Svanoe and Lynne Taylor. They made some small changes to the lyrics and added a 12 string guitar. This became popular during a time when Folk songs were all the rage.
Walk Right In held the number one spot on the Billboard record chart for 2 weeks (Jan. 20 – Feb. 2, 1963). It was only in the top spot on the Cash Box chart for the week of Jan. 27 – Feb. 2.
