The next song to hit the top of the record charts in 1963 was “Easier Said Than Done” by The Essex. The song was written by William Linton and Larry Huff. It was originally recorded as a “B” side but became popular than the “A” side (“Are You Going My Way”). Accounts of the recording session say that the song was recorded in just 20 minutes.
All 5 members of The Essex (4 men and a lady) were members of the US Marine Corps at the time the song was released. Marine duties made it hard for the group to take advantage of their hit.
“Easier Said Than Done” was on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 list for 2 weeks (June 30 – July 13). It was also on the top of the Cash Box chart for 2 weeks but for the weeks of July 7 – 20.
