Tombstone Tuesday; Martha Ford

Iford-martha-tombstone went on a genealogy trip yesterday. I made stops at a few cemeteries and one of those was Maple Lawn Cemetery in Akron, Erie Co., NY. Buried there is my ancestor Mary (Holcomb) Ford. She was born in Simsbury, Hartford Co., Conn. on 11 Jan. 1756. On 24 Aug. 1772 she was married to Adonijah Ford (b 21 Oct 1748) also in Simsbury. They ended up having 11 children. About 1790 they moved to Lexington, Greene Co., NY. It was there on 2 Nov. 1820 that Adonijah died.

Martha moved west with her son, Calvin Ford and his wife Susan. They ended up in Akron, NY. There Martha died on 17 Dec. 1846 and she ended up being buried about 300 miles away from her husband.

The picture is of Martha’s original tombstone which is laying flat on the ground and partially buried. Martha also has an inscription on her son Calvin’s tombstone.
