Boxing & Kwanzaa

Christmas is over except for returning presents that don’t fit or aren’t right for you. But the holidays aren’t over…

boxing-dayToday is Boxing Day in Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and other former British colonies. Although there are various theories as to how the day got named, it usually is thought that it was the day that servants were given the presents that their masters got on Christmas that they didn’t want.

Today is also the first day of Kwanzaa which runs for seven days. It was created in 1966 as the first specifically African-American holiday. Each day is dedicated to one of the following principles:

  1. Unity
  2. Self-Determination
  3. Collective Work and Responsibility
  4. Cooperative Economics
  5. Purpose
  6. Creativity
  7. Faith
