The State of Michigan has been hit really hard by the bad economy. In order to save money, the Governor has proposed closing down the Department of History, Arts and Libraries. That means that the Library of Michigan would be closed and the collection spread out to other places. Now, in reaction to the possible split up of the library and it’s collection, the Records Preservation and Access Committee which is a joint committee of the Federation of Genealogical Societies and the National Genealogical Society, have launched an online petition drive.
You know how these things work. First Michigan; then another state sees that they might be able to save an amount that is really a tiny portion of the budget and they follow suit. So if you want to help, click on the above link, read the petition and consider signing it.
