Let me tell you about my Revolutionary War ancestor, Matthew Halsey. He lived in Bridgehampton, NY on the eastern end of Long Island. He joined a Company of men from that area. The Company marched to Fort Ticonderoga which is about 350 miles to replace men that had survived an attack by British troops. Matthew and his Company only stayed about a month and didn’t see any action while they were there. Then the Company marched back to Long Island where they acted as a local guard for a couple more years.
If you saw action in the military or not, I thank you for your service.
