“Simon Says” was a hit song for the 1910 Fruitgum Comapny in March 1968. It was one of the early songs that they call bubblegum pop. Just a very simple song that was aimed at teenagers and pre-teens. The group began as Jeckell and The Hydes in 1966 as one of the founding members was Frank Jeckell.
“Simon Says” got up to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 record chart where it remained for four weeks (March 3 – 30). At radio station WLS in Chicago it managed to hit #2 on their chart for March 11, 1968. Other hit songs by the group were “1, 2, 3, Red Light” (#5), “Special Delivery” (#38), “Goody, Goody Gumdrops”, and “Indian Giver” (#5).
The original group disbanded in 1970 but there is a group that tours now. The only original member is Frank Jeckell. They appear at shows with other 60s groups. See their tour schedule on the 1910 Fruitgum Company website.
