The Beatles are still going strong in 1968 but “Lady Madonna” was not their biggest hit of the year. The song was mostly written by Paul McCartney with just some minor lyrics by John Lennon. It is a song about an overworked, exhausted working-class mother. If you really listen to the lyrics it mentions each day of the week except Saturday.
This was the last song by The Beatles to be released in the US on the Capitol label. After this all Beatles records would be their Apple label.
The song only got up to number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 record chart but it remained there for 4 weeks (April 14 – May 4). I could only find one radio station where “Lady Madonna” managed to hit the #1 spot. That was WLS in Chicago and they had it on top for their chart of April 1, 1968.
This video is the official release for the song. It really is footage done while recording other songs.
