Hit Songs of 1968 – #19

Simon and Garfunkel were on the top of the charts in 1968 with “Mrs. Robinson.” The song was written by Paul Simon for the 1967 film The Graduate. The version of the song in the film is different from the single version that was released in 1968. The soundtrack album of The Graduate went to the top of the charts. The song was also on their album “Bookends” which also became a number one album.

The single version of “Mrs Robinson” was on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 record chart for 3 weeks (May 26 – June 16). On the Cash Box chart it was at the top for 4 weeks (May 19 – June 15). The song ended up winning the Grammy Award for best song of the year. It also was awarded the Grammy for Best Contemporary-Pop Performance – Vocal Duo or Group.
