This is from the SUNY Brockport student newspaper. Look who was coming to SUNY Brockport in 1968. It is Timothy Leary, exponent for using LSD. He was also known for popularizing the phrase “drop out, turn on, tune in.” For someone that told kids to “drop out” it is ironic that he received a Ph.D. degree in clinical psychology from the UC, Berkeley.
It’s hard to believe that anyone would think that using hallucinatory drugs like LSD would be a good thing to do. It does cause paranoia and delusions. It is also known for causing “flashbacks” for some after it’s use. It was still legal to use LSD at the time of this debate. It would made illegal just a month later.

Orientation Speakers Series Presents “Challenge”
On Monday, Sept. 30, Dr Timothy Leary and Dr. Sidney Cohen, both experts on hallucinatory drugs, will present a vivacious debate on LSD. Freshmen and transfers will be admitted free–all others will be charged one dollar.
Whether you are for or against the use of such drugs, you will hear you side defended by someone who knows. Don’t be a conversational dropout; be aware of the present problems concerning LSD so you too, can present an argument based on a expert’s knowledge.
Come to Harwell Gym at 8:00. Take notes or just listen, but come!! If you want good speakers at Brockport, it is up to you to support them.
