Rochester TV, 1953 – Wed. evening

Channel 6 (WHAM – TV) in 1953 was officially affiliated with the NBC network but they also played some programs from both CBS and the DuMont Network. That’s because their weren’t any stations in Rochester affiliated with those networks at the time. This is the scheduled programs for the evening of 29 April 1953:

  • 7:00 – 7:15 – This is Charles Laughton. The movie star reads selections from the Bible and classic novels.
  • 7:15 – 7:30 – film.
  • 7:30 – 7:45 – Coke Time with Eddie Fisher.
  • 7:45 – 8:00 – News Caravan. The anchor at this time was John Cameron Swayze.
  • 8:00 – 8:30 – Boston Blackie. A film series then radio program and finally a TV series of a detective. In the TV series series Blackie drove an exotic auto. There are these 14 episodes on the Internet Archive.
  • 8:30 – 8:45 – Popular Science.
  • 8:45 – 9:00 – Wonders of Wild.
  • 9:00 – 10:00 – TV Theatre.
  • 10:00 – 11:00 – Boxing Bout. The main event on this day was Chuck Davey and Sammy Giuliana in a 10 round bout from Olympia Stadium in Detroit.
  • 11:00 – 11:15 – News, Weather.
  • 11:15 – 12:15 – Robert Montgomery Presents. Robert Montgomery was host, narrator, producer and sometimes performer. in this dramatic anthology.
