Nearly two dozen tombstones were toppled in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Perinton last Thursday. It was the second time in two weeks that vandals have attacked the cemetery. This time, a family visiting the cemetery saw several men loitering. Then one of the men toppled a tombstone. The mourners called 911 but the young men left before a Monroe County Deputy could arrived.
Five tombstones that were broken will be replaced. The other tombstones will be set up again as soon as possible. Estimates of the repairs are between $3000 and $5000.
The cemetery is associated with the Church of the Assumption in Fairport.
