World War I starts

On this date in 1917 the US formally declared war against Germany and entered what become the First World War. The War had been going on for about three years before the “doughboys” went to help out.

There is one American doughboy still living at this time at age of 108. He is Frank Buckles and you can find out more about him by following the link.

If you want to hear how we were going to save Europe listen to “Over There” by George M. Cohan, and performed by Billy Murray, from 1917.
