At an early age Theodore began as a clerk for Severyn Hasbrouck. He later worked a year for Jacob D. Vandemark and in 1836 he began his own mercantile business in Kripple Bush. In 1867 he moved to Phillipsport, NY and engaged in hoop manufacturing. He later returned to Kripple Bush and his mercantile business. When the mercantile went broke, he began manufacturing hoops in Kripple Bush. In 1887 he moved his business to Ellensville and became the largest local hoop manufacturer producing 75 million hoops a year. He died at noon at his home on Circle Ave. on 14 September 1918 in Ellenville, Ulster Co., NY He was buried on 17 September 1918 at Fantinekill Cemetery in Ellenville, NY.29
