Antique car shows were high on John's priority list and he often entered his treasured 1938 Ford pick-up. His passion for automobiles was shared with a love of flying. John endured the many hours of course-work and flying time required to become a pilot and was elated when he completed his first solo flight.

John was involved in 4-H and held membership in the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770 in Trumansburg. He followed the NASCAR circuit and slowed life down at times by going fishing. John took great pride in keeping the lawn and gardens surrounding his home in impeccable condition.
