James was married before he married Kate. In 1884 he was a merchant in Marbletown, NY. In 1889 James bought the grocery store in Kripple Bush from his father-in-law, Isaac Wilklow. James was baptized on 4 July 1890. He died on 14 July 1890 in New York State. He was buried at Fairview Cemetery in Stone Ridge, NY.¹⁴
