This time we have a hit song from a movie. Isaac Hayes wrote and preforms “Theme from Shaft.” I love the guitar work in the introduction. That intro takes up about half the song. This single runs 3:15 and then the album version clocks in at 4:34. There was also an edited DJ version that some stations played. That edited out “mother” from the line “Shaft is a bad mother…”.

“Theme from Shaft” was at #1 on the Cash Box Top 100 chart for two weeks (Nov. 7 – 20). It was also at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks but for the weeks of Nov. 14 – 27.

The song garnered an Academy award from Mr. Hayes in the category of Best Original Song. He even preformed the song at award show.

The movie Shaft was so successful that it has had 4 sequels.
