Hit Songs of 1975 – #5

Neil Sedaka had his first hit 1958 with “Oh! Carol.” Besides having hits for himself, he and his writing partner, Howard Greenfield, wrote hit song for other artists.  By the late 1960s he had become out of style and depended on tours to the UK and Australia to keep going. He got a new writing partner in Phil Cody and had made a big difference. “Laughter in the Rain” was the first hit for the new team. The song was on the top of both the Billboard and Cash Box charts for the week of Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, 1975.

Neil was co-writer for a hit song in 1975 for another group that will be featured here in late June.

I saw Neil perform in 2019 and he still sounded good. He sang all his big hits and also proved he could play some classical music.

Songs that were hits earlier in 1975:

  1. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” by E;ton John.
  2. You’re My First, You’re My Last, My In-Between”  by Barry White.
  3. Mandy” by Barry Manilow.
  4. Please Mr. Postman” by the Carpenters.
