Last week I scanned the Lanthorn 1962.That is the yearbook for Nazareth Academy here in Rochester.
I had problems with this yearbook. Like a lot of modern yearbooks it is 9 x 12 inches. That is larger than my scanner. I took the yearbook down to Rochester Public Library (B&L building) where they have a scanner that has a bed that is 11 x 17 inches. I probably annoyed a few people because I spent an hour and a half scanning. The scans looked good as I was scanning but when I got home the pages all looked orange and purple. I deleted all those scans.
Greece Public Library also has a similar scanner. Their scanning system also is used to release printed page from the public computers. So I limited my time to just a half hour for the three visits that it took to scan the whole yearbook. I would later find out that I missed scanning 4 pages.
These scans looked as best as they could as the pages of yearbook have turned yellow around the edges. I can get rid of that yellowing but it takes extra time for each page. It ended up pretty good in the end.
It looks like about 300 girls graduated in the 1962 class. They would be an average age of 81 now so they could have great-grandchildren by now.
There was a lot of activities for the girls including the basketball team, above. It looks like they put on three plays in the 1961 – 1962 school year.
