Hit Songs of 1975 – #18

In 1975 Tony Orlando had a hit with “He Don’t Love You (Like I Love You).” That song was recorded in 1960 by Jerry Butler (who co-wrote it) as “He Will Break Your Heart.” At that time it got up to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Tony heard the song and got permission to change the title to the first line of the song. Since then the song has been recorded by other artists as both titles.

Tony Orlando were riding high at the time as they had their TV show that ran from 1974 to 1978. That helped to get the song to rise to he top of the Cash Box Top 100 list for the week of April 27 – May 3. On the Billboard chart it was at #1 for three weeks (April 27 – May 17).

Tony, who was born Michael Anthony Orlando Cassavitis, gave his final concert last year. The two original members of Dawn, Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent, joined Tony for his last concert.
