Last week I scanned 8 booklets from RG&E. Most are recipe books with some cooking tips. none of them have a date. I think that these were from the 1960s and 1970s.
The first one is for new brides. It more or less assumes that she doesn’t know how to cook or plan a meal. There are also some other kitchen tips in that booklet.
- The Bride’s Guide.
- Cakes.
- A Christmas Cookbook.
- Casseroles.
- Everyone Likes Cookies.
- How to Cook Meat.
- Fish and Seafood.
- Your Home Laundry Guide, which also includes tips on stain removal.
There even more of these kind of booklets from RG&E on the RG&E Collection webpage.
On the back of a couple of these booklets it says that “When you buy a new appliance from RG&E, a Home Service girl will call at your home to advise you on its care and use.” I find that interesting that they thought you would need help in knowing how to clean your appliances. I couldn’t find when RG&E stopped selling appliances. Also at that time RG&E could send a home economist to talk to clubs, church groups, or other organizations. I bet she would also tell you about the new appliances that RG&E was selling.
