Even though RootsTech had been sending me notices of the 2026 conference, I forgot about it until the notices yesterday. I didn’t watch too many videos yesterday but most will be available to view later. I did notice that both FamilySearch and Ancestry mention AI, a lot. FamilySearch lets you do a full text search for free but on Ancestry you have to have their “All Access” tier. Some searches are starting to let you type a question in natural language rather than fill in boxes.
I have over 32,000 relatives on RootsTech. The closest matches are 3rd cousins. I have corresponded with a couple of the 3rd cousins in the past. I don’t think that some of the people that show as distant cousins are really my cousins. I think that there are mistakes in distant relationships that I need to fix. I don’t say that my genealogical research is perfect but a woman can’t have a child when she is dead. That happens because a child is attached to a wrong wife.
Go to the RootsTech Online Expo Hall and see the bargains that are being offered. For some offers you have to click on the name of the company to see their offers. Check them out this weekend as some of the offers expire on Monday.
There are sessions running continuously until late Sunday night which is after the official conclusion of the in person conference. Most of the sessions are recorded and can be view for the next year on your schedule. But don’t you want to see them ASAP?
