“Misty Blue” was an old song that became popular again in 1976. It was written by Bob Montgomery about 1966 for Brenda Lee. She turned the song down. So her producer had the song recorded by Wilma Burgess as a country style song. The next year it was recorded by Eddie Arnold, again as a country song.

In 1976 it was recorded as a blue song by Dorothy Moore. It was her version that got up the highest on the charts. It got up to #3 on the Cash Box chart for two weeks, June 13 – 26, 1976. On the Billboard chart it also got up to #3 but for four weeks (June 6 – July 3).

Since that time the song has recorded by many more artists, sometimes as a blue song and other times as a country song.

Dorothy Moore was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Misty Blue.” The next year she was nominated again for “I Believe You.” She also has won many awards for her blues songs. But none ever reached the success of “Misty Blue.”
