Old News – Big Goof

A building contractor decided to dig without first finding if there were any buried wires. He only knocked out 600 telephone lines. Telephone and TV cable lines are still buried in populated areas.

How about that price for a 4 bedroom house in the Town of Pittsford? I wonder what the price of that house would be today.

HF Digging Goof Knocks Out Phones 1

Did you have trouble with your telephones last Friday afternoon? You were not alone. According to Richard Davis, Canandaigua District manager of the Rochester Telephone Company, a contractor digging on West Main Street in Honeoye Falls about 4 p.m. hit a cable, severing some lines.

The digging was being done in the parking lot of the Mill across from the post office, and Mr. Davis said that while the 1100 pair cable was not completely severed, about 600 lines were temporarily out of order. Telephone Company trouble-shooters moved in immediately and worked throughout the night, approximately 25 craftsmen and supervisory personnel using their skills.

Most of the lines were back in operation by 10 a.m. Saturday, and all by 3 p.m. The cable connects Lima telephones with the telephone building on Monroe Street in Honeoye Falls.
