Last week the biggest thing I scanned was Circular and Catalogue of Williams & Rogers Rochester Business Institute, 1897-8. The school had a very long history. This was the 33rd year of the school and they made to 150 years. Then they got bought out and suddenly closed in 2015.
Back in 1897 tuition was $100 per year. They were located on the top floors of the YMCA building on South Avenue and students could get membership in the “Y” for just $1 per year.
In the back of the catalog is a list of students. It appears that they had about 3 times as many men as women. Most of the students came from around the western New York area but I did see one student from Colorado and another from Texas.
The small booklet Charlotte in the War of 1812 (1984) is by Wayne K. Arnold and Michael R. Huffman. The British troops did try take over Charlotte but it didn’t happen. Read what the early settlers did to keep the British at bay.
I found two more recipe books from RG&E at a local church sale:
Home Made Breads, Rolls and Kuchens.
Hot Breads.
As usual, I have to say that you should use old recipes with care. Safe food handling has gotten better over the years.
