I forgot to mention a couple of things from last week.
Bill Sauers sent this photo of the historical marker at the Susan B. Anthony house. It had been stored in a garage for many years. It recently got re-painted and now is back outside and looking like brand-new. I have had this photo of the marker being dedicated in 1948.
I made this web page with links to issues of the Rural New Yorker newspaper. It was published in Rochester from 1850 to 1878. After that it was published in New York City. The links are from the whole 115 year run of the newspaper. Cornell University scanned whole volumes. Rochester Public Library scanned single issues from 1861 to 1865. Then there are a few other random issues.
It was a agricultural newspaper but also had some articles for women and children. Some issues in the 1860s and 1870s have poems. I noticed that there also a few death notices in issues during the 1860s. I checked the Rochester newspaper index for a couple of those death notices and they weren’t in the daily Rochester newspapers.
There are ads for Vicks Seeds and Harris Seeds from Rochester. In the 1920s there ads for automobiles. The ads for farm equipment kept up with the times.
