The first thing I scanned last week was WVET and the Eager Beavers from 1948. This was a large sized promotional booklet for the radio station. It has pictures of staff and also some pictures of the programs on the station. At that time they were part of the Mutual Broadcasting Service (MBS). MBS was known for originating The Lone Ranger, The Green Hornet, The Adventures of Superman, and The Shadow. Weekdays they broadcast Queen for a Day which I think was a horrible show that later made the transmission to TV. On it, women would tell how bad their life was, and the story that got the most depressing votes would win prizes.
Another radio item is Transcripts of radio shows by Ross Weller from Jan. – June 1947. I actually scanned these back in 2017 but never uploaded them until now. After I scanned these I gave them to the Rochester radio archive at St. John Fisher College. In 1947 Ross Weller was on radio station WHAM. He would also be on TV when Rochester got it’s first TV station in 1949. On this radio show he was playing records of the day. I have no idea why these transcripts were created.
I still am looking for someone that has a collection of Rochester radio surveys (weekly rating lists) that I could borrow and scan. I could scan any of those from before 1985.
I also scanned St. Lucy’s Church, Rochester, N. Y.; Golden Jubilee; 1913 – 1963. This is a short history of the former church. The church was formed in 1912 and their building was constructed on Troup Street in 1913. It was closed in June 1975 and became another denomination. Then the church building burned so bad in 2001 that it was torn down. There is just a vacant lot there now.
Last, I scanned Walt Disney’s Peter Pan Coloring Book. Seeing as that is not local history, the link will take you to the coloring book on the Internet Archive. Only 5 or 6 pages have been colored in that book. You could print out pages for your kids or grandchildren to color.
This isn’t the first coloring book that I have scanned. Also on the Internet Archive are:
- 50 Years with Snap! Crackle! Pop! Coloring Book.
- The Three Little Pigs; story and coloring book.
Then on the Monroe County GenWeb are:
- An Erie Canal Coloring Book.
- Learn Not to Burn! with the Kodak Gang. A coloring book for kids that also teaches fire safety.
- Be Safe at Home with the Kodak Gang. A coloring book for kids that also teaches safety at home.
