We made pizzas after 5 pm at our restaurant back in the 60s. Today, there are 5 places to order a pizza within a mile from my house. But back in the 60s there weren’t very many places to get a pizza.
We cheated. We bought pre-made crusts. No, not frozen, they were refrigerated. That saved us lots of time and helped to make them more consistent.
We sold three sizes; 6 in., 9 in., and 12 inch. People would ask how pieces in the 12 inch pizza. We always felt like says “how many would you like?” but usually that was cut into 8 pieces. That 6 inch pizza was cut into 4 small pieces usually but it was like getting 2 full size slices.
You could eat in or take out the pizza. We also took phone order that had to be picked up. Only had a few times when someone would phone in an order and never pick it up.
I remember the price of the 6 inch pizza was 59 cents plus 5 for additional item. Sorry, can’t remember the prices of the larger size. Additional items were pepperoni, ground beef, Italian sausage, onions, peppers and anchovies. A man from the Navy training center across the street from use would order his pizza with anchovies and onions but no cheese. It smelled awful!
