I scanned a 100 year old yearbook last week. 1925 The Chesbronian was the yearbook for Chesbrough Seminary. That school would eventually become Roberts Wesleyan College University. Back in 1925 it was a 2 year college so those students are listed as Sophomores and Freshmen. But it also was a high school. Those are shown as Seniors, Juniors, Preparatory Sophomores, and Preparatory Freshmen. There is also a group picture of 9 students that are listed as Junior High. Not sure if they are grade 8 or grades 7 and 8.
This yearbook has a picture of Benjamin T. Roberts and a 2½ page biography of him.
Because the yearbook was a small one, I had some extra time. I uploaded some pictures to the GenWeb site.
The picture above needs some explanation. It is Allen’s Creek going under East Avenue in Brighton. Thousands of people drive over the bridge each day without noticing the creek or the bridge. This view can only be seen on private property but I was there for an estate sale last month and was able to take the photo.
You can see a bigger size of the Allen’s Creek photo on the GenWeb site. Other new pictures are:
- Dusk at Ontario Beach Park (also a photo by me).
- Eastman Theatre at Night, another photo by me.
- A Weird statue, outside of the Memorial Art Gallery.
- The altar and stained glass window in All Saints Chapel at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
- A 1912 Selden auto that was made in Rochester and modified for a Rochester fire chief.
- A VERY racist trade card for Rundel’s Art Gallery in Rochester.
- A trade card for Cowles Curtis & Co., shoes that were made in Rochester.
- Rochester Fire Department in a postcard of a parade in 1909.
- A postcard of a Labor Day parade, probably from 1906.
- A postcard view of Langie coal storage.
- A photo postcard of The Shire at Culverton, an adult home in Irondequoit, probably from the 1960s.
- A photo postcard of Locust Lawn Restaurant (and lots of cars) on Rt. 64 in Ionia. This is probably from about 1950 based on the cars.
- An old postcard of a concert at Seneca Park.
- A postcard of the building that housed Dake Drugs in downtown Rochester.
- A postcard view of West Main Street in Rochester that was postmarked 1914.
- A postcard of Court Street Bridge that managed to not show hardly an buildings.
- A B&W postcard of the First Baptist Church in East Rochester.
- A postcard view of Hotel Seneca that has added carriages and an automobile.
Then I split up the Historical Markers index into two pages; Brighton – Perinton and Pittsford – Wheatland because I was getting too many thumbnails on the one index page. Then I added these five markers:
- Harper Method marker on East Main St. in Rochester.
- Trolley Depot marker in Brockport.
- Pythodd Room marker of a former jazz club in Rochester.
- Erie Canal marker in Fairport.
- Marker for a World War II tragedy near Fairport.
