Hit Songs of 1975 – #39

This popular song from 1975 was really depressing. It starts out with the girl saying “Daddy, please don’t! It wasn’t his fault; he means so much to me. Daddy, please don’t! We’re going to get married; just you wait and see.” It is never said but implies that Julie has become pregnant. Then David Geddes (as Joey) sings the rest of the story. Instead of running he goes to Julie’s house where her father draws a gun. The father ends up shooting and killing Julie. Not a happy ending!

This was the biggest hit by David Geddes. He only released a couple of other songs that didn’t sell.

The song got up to #4 on the Billboard chart for the week of  Sept. 28 – Oct. 4. That same week it was on the top of the Cash Box chart.

The voice of Julie in the song is Paula Vance who was the daughter of Paul Vance, co-writer of the song with Jack Perricone.
