Hit Songs of 1973 – #7

This is another “one hit wonder.” Norman “Hurricane” Smith had a great career in music before he recorded “Oh, Babe, What Would You Say?.” He was the recording engineer for most of The Beatles early songs (over 100 songs). He then was the producers of the 1st, 2nd, and 4th album by Pink Floyd.

This song was written by his wife, Eileen Sylvia Smith. It sounds more like it was a song from the 30s or 40s. It got up to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of Feb. 11 – 17, 1973. That same week it was at the top the Cash Box Top 100 chart.  Some recordings followed but “Hurricane” never had another hit. He died in 2008 at aged 85.

  1. This is kind of a strange video, Dick. I barely remember this song so maybe it wasn’t played much in Rochester.
