Rochester in 1904

Rochester in 1904 is a book published by the Rochester Chamber of Commerce. It tells you what Rochester has to offer to the people living and working here, It has some nice pictures of the area including the City parks.

This picture is showing off the new street cleaning system. They are using a horse drawn sprinkler wagon . I think most of the streets would have still been dirt but downtown would have had some paved streets.

Being as this was published by the Chamber of Commerce, it also has sections on some of the businesses including nurseries, show manufacturers and the milling industry. There are a lot of ads for businesses most with pictures. That includes both factories and stores. The last 2 pages have architecture drawings of the building being built for Rochester Brewing Company. In more recent times it was Judge’s Ford. That building is now part of Rochester Regional Health.

Part of the book has by-laws of the Chamber, which you can skip over.

I have had another one of these books from 1906 but it has a tight binding so it never got scanned. This book from 1904 has both covers detached and a few pages detached in the rear of the book.
