2019 Book Fair
Last Saturday was the Rochester Antiquarian Book Fair. It was the first time back since 2019 because of Covid restrictions. They also moved the fair from the old Rochester Armory (on Main St.) to the Dome Arena. They are saying that they had about 700 people come and view the many book sellers. Also there were at least 5 book authors there selling and signing their books.
I was interested in the local history books that the were available from the sellers. Most of them had at least a few old local history titles. I thought that prices were at least twice as much as I can find the same books available on Amazon or eBay. I did see one person comparing prices on his phone to the price of a seller at the book fair. One local book seller had a couple of prices that were so high that it made me laugh.
A lot of these kind of book specialty stores have closed because of competition from online book sellers. Even I am a competitor. In my current listings on eBay I have some local histories for sale. I say that you should always compare price and quality of books or other items before buying. If you are in the Rochester area, I also will let you pick-up to save the postage charge. Postage for a book now starts at $4 because of postal rate increases.
