This was the third hit song by Stevie Wonder in 1973. He said that he wrote and recorded “Higher Ground” in just three hours. He proves that he is a wonder on this song as he plays two different keyboards, drums, and sings on this song. No one else on the song.

The song was recorded just before he was involved in a near-fatal accident in August 1973 that left him in a coma. It took him a while to recover.

“Higher Ground” got up to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of Oct. 7 – 13.  That week it was on the top of the Cash Box Top 100 chart.
