I’m going to jump ahead, a little. There was the article, below, about our restaurant published in the Elmira Star-Gazette on July 27, 1965. Let me tell you how things worked. If you ordered a number of ads in the newspaper then they would publish one of these articles, once a year. In very small print it did state that it was an “advertising feature” but hardly anyone would know what that meant.
In the photo my dad looks like he is scared. Linda was just summer help. She went to college in fall ’65. My brother, David, would go college in Iowa in September 1965.
There is a little sign on the cooking bay that says “Sorry, I can’t hear you in my glass cage (Too much noise from fans in here).” That was put up so that people wouldn’t think that she was ignoring them.

The refreshment stand has a comfortable counter where you can sit and there are picnic tables on the patio if you prefer.
In addition to the wonderful barbecues and sandwiches there is a full menu of soft drinks (with real root beer), colas, ice cream sundaes, cones, milk shakes, floats, freezes and soda. After 5 p. m. every day Larry’s also has delicious pizzas for your eating delight.
Larry’s BAR-B-Q opened for business in April this year after 14 years operation as a produce stand. It is owned and operated by Larry and Ruth Halsey who also operated the produce business.
Larry has been in some phase of the food business for over 32 years. The Halseys have two sons and a daughter and two grandchildren.
The two boys assist in the operation of the barbecue.
Larry’s Bar-B-Q serves only the finest quality food and refreshments from 11 a.m. until midnight seven days a week.
