Last Sunday I went to an antique show in Bath, NY. On my way back home I had a planned stop. It was to the Mapleview Cemetery in Cohocton, NY. I was looking for my 1st cousin. 3 times removed, Frank Wilklow. His wife, Emma (French) Wilklow is on Find a Grave with a tombstone picture, but not Frank.
According to my old records also buried in that cemetery is Frank and Emma’s infant son Berty. I have that Berty died July 23, 1875 at aged 1. I found a tombstone for Berty right next to his mother but it is hard to read. It is small with just the name “Berty” on it. I suppose it is possible that there are dates under the ground but it doesn’t look like it.
So when I get home I looked at my genealogy data and see that I don’t have a source for Berty’s death. That date is too early for NY vital records. I tried looking at a few online sources, but failed. I can’t figure out where I got his death date and age from.
I didn’t find Frank in the cemetery. His wife, Emma, died in February 1896. Their only other child, Edith, was married at her father’s home in Dec. 1896 according to a newspaper article. That is the last record of Frank. He isn’t in the 1900 census. He may be the Frank Wilklow that was kicked by a mule and died the next day. That was in 1906 in Oregon. His death certificate is most blank information so I probably will never be sure if that is him or not.
