Last week I scanned “Blondie and Dagwood’s Snapshot Clue” (1943). It isn’t local history so I put it on the Internet Archive. On the title page it says this novel is written by Chic Young but I really doubt that he was the actual author. He created Blondie in 1930 and was busy drawing the comic daily. There are pages with drawings and those are probably drawn by him but I think he only had approval of this book and there was a “ghost” author.
Blondie became a radio show in 1939 and it ran until 1950. You can hear some of those radio episodes here on the Internet Archive. This series starred Arthur Lake as Dagwood and for most of the run Penny Singleton was Blondie.
There were 28 movies about Blondie and Dagwood between 1938 and 1950. Those all starred Penny Singleton and Arthur Lake.
For one season (1957-8) there was a “Blondie” TV series. It starred Arthur Lake again. But for this series Pamela Britton was Blondie.
There was another “Blondie” TV series in 1968. That starred Patricia Harty and Will Hutchins. That only lasted 16 episodes.
In this book Alexander is a toddler and Cookie is a baby. Now they are both teenagers.
I didn’t have time to read the book but I think it is about a photo that Dagwood took of an accident. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Murat Bernard “Chic” Young died in 1973. His son, Dean Young, has had control of the comic since then.
