Gladys Knight and the Pips were back with another hit song in 1974. “Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me” (also known as “You’re the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me”) was recorded in 1973 by Danny Thomas. Yes, Marlo’s father and the one that had a hit TV show with Make Room for Daddy. His version went nowhere.

Gladys Knight and the Pips were all relatives. Gladys’ brother, Bubba, was one and then William Guest and Edward Patten were her cousins. The Pips officially broke up in 1989. Gladys did a farewell tour of the United Kingdom in 2009. Then she would more farewells 2015 – 2017 and 2022. This year she is doing a farewell tour in Australia and New Zealand.

The version by Gladys and those Pips got up to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of April 21 – 27. It was at #3 on the Cash Box Top 100 chart for two weeks (April 14 – 27).
