On Tuesday I drove down to about a mile from the Pennsylvania border. I placed these two memorials for my great grandfather, Melvin Halsey, and his 3rd wife, Laura. Neither never had a tombstone. They were poor and couldn’t afford one. In fact when Melvin died he owed more money than he had.
The black granite memorials came from Mark Every Grave. They are only 6 x 12 inches and about 5/8 thick. They are mounted on 12 x 12 garden pavers. I know that those pavers don’t last forever so I sprayed them with epoxy first to make them last longer. Then used super glue to stick the granite to the paver.
Laura isn’t my great grandmother but I thought that she also deserved a memorial. Her maiden name was Comfort and there are 12 other Comforts buried in the cemetery. But only one Comfort tombstone, Laura’s grandfather Edmund Comfort. This old cemetery doesn’t have burial records and the latest burial was in the early 1940s. So when it came time to figuring out a place for these memorials I just picked a spot about 4 feet away from Laura’s grandfather.
According to Find a Grave this cemetery has 124 burials and now there are 74 memorials with photos.
