Church Histories

Last week I said I was going to scan a church history but I ended up scanning two church histories:

Mother of Sorrows, Rochester, New York: 1829-1979 is a  history of the early Roman Catholic church in Greece, NY. The history was written by Father Robert F. McNamara. It only takes up about half of the book. The second half is  A History of Catholic America; From Columbus to Twentieth Century by E. Phillips Mantz and Rev. Michael J. Roach.

This was an easy book to scan. The pages were printed on good quality bright white paper. Plus it had nice wide  good margins. One problem was 4 pages that were printed on gold colored paper. They didn’t come out looking as shiny as the originals. Then there are line drawings over some pages of text that make it hard to read the text.

St. Theodore Church

The second history was St. Theodore Church, Gates, New York (1975). This is another Roman Catholic church, this one being on Spencerport Road in Gates, NY. The church history part was written Domenick White.

This book was harder to scan. It had a tight binding and it was difficult getting good images of some of the pages. Plus it was printed on textured paper. That made some of the pictures come out looking weird. The pages in the end with sponsor’s names had a spiral border and I had to use some magic to make the borders look good.
