John Lennon had a #1 hit on both Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100 charts for the week of Nov. 10 – 16, 1974 with “Whatever Gets You thru the Night.” It is hard to believe but this was the only solo #1 song by John. Supposedly John had heard the title from a late night TV preacher and thought it make a great title for a song.
Elton John is on this song as a background singer and also playing harmonica and piano.
John Lennon is nominated for two Grammy awards as part of The Beatles for the song “Now and Then.” It is the first song composed with the help of AI to be nominated for a Grammy. The song was recorded by John on an old cassette tape. AI was used to isolate and enhance his voice. John wrote the song but it is nominated for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance. We’ll see if it wins either of those awards on Feb. 2, 2025.
